Just an update on the kernel situation. A new kernel is being tested that looks promising. If you’ve downloaded the latest kernel (2.6.30.1-kuki-20090707), you probably have noticed that the intel video driver is really, really slow, and you have to change the permissions on /dev/snd everytime you boot.
It seems that both of these issues have been resolved with 2.6.31-rc3. In testing, glxgears, using the default xorg.conf yields 826 fps (while glxgears is not a good benchmark, the 2.6.30.1 kernel only yields 140 fps). Also, the gstreamer permission error with the mixer also is fixed!
The downside — this kernel takes a couple of seconds longer to boot than the kuki kernel that shipped with Kuki 3.0 Pre Release 1.7.
Anyway, once this kernel passes testing, we will put it on the download page for general availability. We’ll post a notice here, so keep tuned!
